This is something I've actually been wondering, because I'm a nerd like that. Because all the different shapes and sizes of animal heads, it's reasonable to believe how difficult it would be to make a "one size fits all" helmet (at least, one that is equivalent to what NFL players wear) for a furry. The different positions of the ears would make it very uncomfortable to wear a solid helmet that covers the ears completely, but then it would also not work to have the ears exposed and the rest of the head covered. In addition, how does the muzzle get covered up? And then you have the slew of animals with horns and antlers. Sure, deer have antlers that could be shaved down (i.e. the Redfields) and they grow back, but I don't think a ram's or cow's horns work the same way. Furthermore, most of the art we have drawn thus far has cleverly avoided having to draw helmets... so good job guys So, would they even need helmets? Animals could probably take tackles much better than humans can, but it's such a contact-heavy sport. But then maybe they would they wear some other type of protection, kind of like the adjustable leather helmets that the NFL used to wear back in the days? Or perhaps its an entirely different type of helmet... GAH!!! I don't have the answer to this, but - going forward, especially if this is expected to be like a universe of sorts - we might want to define what is worn for the head. (It's also shown both ways in the art for the FHL - with or without the helmet. So that doesn't help much.) -VP
