Whether people realize it or not, checking the spreadsheets is vital to the integrity and health of our league. It guarantees new players a chance to shine, and gives managers a sense of being directly involved in the success of their team.
With that being said, the period between Week 1 / Week 2 saw only 7 of 12 GMs actively updating their spreadsheets this week. Out of the 5 that did not, 3 of these 5 had injuries. Injuries are REQUIRED to be changed.
When a team has injuries that are unaccounted for on their rosters, it requires Management to come in and make changes to your roster. This isn't a HUGE problem for Agents to worry about, since the majority of the league is default/veteran players who do not matter. But, as time goes on, we will have more personal players who are owned by agents. This quickly becomes a huge problem if we have to cut someone's player from a team because the GM is inactive. Personally, I would hate it if someone was micro-managing my team. We've also had it where new rookies aren't starting for their team because the GMs have not had them marked as starting.
I also am not sure how aware our GMs are of this issue. That may be what Management's issue is - we aren't communicating clearly.
It was debated shortly whether or not to discontinue injuries for this season, however this keeps GMs from inactivity altogether - and being active in this league is essential if we want to be able to bring in new players who have signed up mid-Season, thus attracting more attention from newcomers.
The Furry Basketball Association (FBA) enacts the 3-2-3 Rule, which states you get three times a season to get two chances to respond in three days. For the high level of activity that the FBA receives, this may work for them, but we fear this is a bit too strict for the UFFL, which is just barely off the ground after two weeks of play.
Earlier in the season, we had proposed a loose rule that gives GMs 6 weeks of inactivity before they are contacted, and if they do not respond within 2 weeks of that notice, they lose their GM privileges. We fear now that this may not be strict enough of a rule, given the number of injuries that were enacted this first week.
Our NOW ACTIVE proposal is: A 2 week grace period, after which the GM will be contacted directly and then suspended if they are still inactive 2 weeks later. The GM will be then put on suspension, be given a date to come and present their case to the GMs, and then the active GMs would vote to decide what the best course of action would be. If they did not respond to that date, they would be suspended permanently.
We don't like kicking people out of the league, but we cannot be successful if our league is not communicating or participating - and especially when there are plenty of others out there who do actively communicate and participate.
Please contribute your two cents and let's figure out if our Proposal needs some further tweakage, or if we are being unfair.
